Moving into the first quarter of 2013, Facebook has announced that they now have 1.11 BILLION users. Given that number, a reasonable entrepreneur can easily see that Facebook has undeniable power and attraction for opportunists that are in business. Given this, it is important that your next move is a good one. So, we at Social Experts, always watching your back, have composed a list of a few Facebook mistakes that you may want to avoid when using Facebook as a Marketing tool for your precious business.
1. Don’t be an eager car salesman. No offense to car salesmen, the technique I am about to cover is probably good for you, just not for Facebook Marketing. The thing you want to avoid is decorating your cover photo like it is the windshield of car that is for sale. When someone comes to your page, they shouldn’t feel as if you are only about business. If they see a picture of your product and a star in the left hand corner with a price, the average fan will be turned off by your directness. Facebook is a “Social” site, so you want to keep this in mind when you design how your brand will be seen on your page. You will want to upload a cover photo that is representative of your brand and shows it in a good light, and you will want many choices for your cover photo, so that you can switch it up and keep things fresh on your page. Another advantage to switching the photo on a regular basis is that it lands you in the news feed of roughly 15% of your fans. The more they see you, the better. So, keep it clean and classy, and remember to be social. Treat your fans like they are at a summer patio party at your house and make sure they are comfortable.
2. Don’t get caught up in “Like” hype. Some business owners get hyper focused on getting more likes, and less focused on what’s important. Sure, it is good to create a steady stream of new likes, after all more likes could equal more business. But instead of just focusing on the likes, don’t take your eye off the ball when it comes to servicing your current fans. What you will want to do is create a well thought out content plan and implement it like clockwork every month. When someone responds to one of your posts, pretend they are a dinner guest and speak to them accordingly. Be as prompt as you can, and be cordial and generous. When you focus on taking such good care of the fans you already have, a steady stream of activity that matters will be created and grow organically. Plus, when you have really loyal fans, they will share about you to their friends, especially when you ask them too. So, prime the well and set yourself up for success by focusing on what is really important, those fans right in front of you.
3. Not taking proper advantage of the About Section on your page. This little tip will help your streamline your page, so pay close attention. There is an about section on your page and in it you can highlight your business. Most people waste this space by talking about what they do and how they started their business. Instead of doing that, what I want you to do is come up with a quick pitch, maybe 6 words long that explains what you do, and under that type out your website address and maybe your telephone number. The value of this is that the web address will show up directly on your Facebook page when someone arrives, and it is clickable so someone can easily go directly to your website. Facebook is not the only thing you should be doing in your marketing, you definitely want people to check out your website and get more information about you so they can hire you. So, use this little trick to get more traffic to your site, and ultimately more sales.
These are just three mistakes to avoid when you are doing Facebook Marketing. There are many more to share, so stay tuned. It is very likely that we will be publishing a more extensive list in the near future. In the meantime, keep up with your posts, be great with your fans, and make sure to turn off Facebook before it fries your brain, and go spend quality time with your families. As always, it is a pleasure to serve you as a fan of Social Experts.
