Do you love who you are? Do you love what you do? Does everyone else know that? Chances are, if you are like most people, your self-promotion is not on full volume.
Someone once told me, rich people promote themselves, poor people are ashamed to promote themselves. I don’t know if that blanket statement is true, but I have often observed that those who really truly succeed are fantastic at marketing themselves. All that “shameless” self promotion seems to pay off.
I’ll give you an example in my own life. Recently, while traveling in Northern Illinois, five hours away from my home in St. Louis Missouri, I came across a Billboard that I recognized. It was for Missouri Tourism, and I had taken the photo. It never gets old to see your photography on a billboard, but accidentally coming across a billboard with my photo on it 5 hours from home is pretty fun. So, I did what all good Social Experts do, I posted a picture of it on Facebook. Within 24 hours I had over 40 people like the image and many made comments. What I noticed is that people LOVE knowing someone who is passionate about and loves what they do. So, my friends celebrated that post.
Here is the good part…are you ready? An art director for the agency that works for Missouri Tourism saw the image and they hired me to do another campaign in the very near future. I couldn’t be more thrilled!
So, the lesson here is this: Whenever you do something of note, big or small, do not be afraid to share it on Facebook, twitter, or the social platform of your choice. Human beings love to celebrate the accomplishments of others. It reminds them that they too can have a life of accomplishment and do whatthey love. AND, you never know when someone will see it that can hire you for the service you provide or product you sell. Social Media works for business, when you allow yourself to be authentic and fearlessly share.
Much love to all–and happiness to your families
